Description

I swear, I drew this before ancient 4-4-0s were cool. XD

Really, I’m usually a fan of locomotives from the 20th Century. When I thought up this antebellum beast I imagined her a bit larger than your average period engine... I’m a fan of “big steam” through and through! Her scale can be judged by the size of her cab, which is not built to the “two level” design found on most 19th Century American engines... a chute in the high floor allows coal to be fed into the firebox at the proper level.

I wanted to make her look like she’s been around for a while, thus the faded and chipped paint. (The cab roof, though, is copper.) Although somewhere out there exists a piece of paper identifying this fine lady as No. 227, no one ever bothered to paint that number on the engine, apparently.

She has no sand dome... the forward dome houses the throttle, while the huge aft dome houses the whistle and some experimental superheating equipment.

Although she isn’t necessarily prototypically accurate in all regards, I'm happy with her design— in fact, I’ve become somewhat attached to this thing. I may use her as a personal engine for a while. :)

The front/side view is very likely inspired by Steamby. :)
