C+HR No. 604 --for Cody

This is perhaps my finest locomotive lineart, and one of my most ambitious locomotive drawing attempts, although the coloring, shading, and background (which were collectively so daunting to tackle that it took me over two years to complete them) really don’t do the drawing justice. (I mean... spokes!)

This was requested by Cody O’Leary back during a brief period when a Van Sweringen Berkshire was playing the part of his Columbia and Hood River Railroad No. 4601. By the time I’d gotten around to getting the lineart even more-or-less close-to-done he’d already found a better locomotive for the role, but he did find a number on his roster for this old Berkshire, anyway. This is a happy decision, because this locomotive features a couple of C&HR-specific features, including a custom pilot-mounted feedwater heater and an extended-height smokestack.

Since the C&HR is set in the Pacific Northwest somewhere, I’m not sure why the environ I’ve drawn looks like a northeastern city. Also, tenders are for squares. Leave me alone.
