MF+SC Poster --for Dennis by Atticus-W MF+SC Poster --for Dennis by Atticus-W
This is one of my Priority Projects that I’ve been saving for last. About three years ago Dennis asked me for a poster showing his Michigan Frisco and Southern Central Railroad, one of its M4 locomotives, and the various communities that the railroad served. It seemed to me that a stylistic approach with exaggerated industries and terrain would work best for this task— with perhaps a bit of fruit label thrown in. =)

This was a daunting project, but I’m proud of it. I hope you enjoy. =)

Kind of looks like my HO layout with the rapid transition between city, farm, and steep hills as well as the stand-alone stations!

Futuristic, and old timely. Nice combination. I expecially like the doors from Victoria BC I recognize those symbols and colors anywhere.

Hey this is amazing, I have not studied or looked at many US railway posters, but this relates to many UK '30's posters, like very much

Thanks! I'm so glad it makes you think of that era. It was a great age for graphic design in many countries. ^^

You are quite right, that's exactly what sprung to my mind. Well done, it certainly keeps to the spirit of historic railway posters (at least the ones I know of).

I love the lighting on mountains in the back background and the wormer colors at the bottom of sky and the cooler colors at the top awesome! :)

Why thanks! That's exactly where the fruit label influence really came in. I'm so rubbish at colors without some sort of inspiration.

Certainly mate. =) The lineart was nearly done exactly two years ago... once I got the motivation to complete this project, it only took a couple of days to do it starting from that point. It was just a scary project to tackle, and it always seemed that I'd been busy.

Very glad you like it after all this time! ^^

There's no comparison between the pleasant and nostalgic flyers of the railroads and the advertisements of public transport companies of today! :D You've captured that feeling of nostalgia the railroads gave through their posters splendidly.

Thanks much, mate. =) I've noticed that Amtrak has adopted a somewhat retro print advertisement campaign in recent years, with posters like these: [link] ... certainly a step in the right direction, if you ask me.

It reminds me of the old "VISIT ____ VIA LMS" Posters that the LMS produced in the interwar years, bright and colorful and showing off the country side. Another absolutely Atty art piece that is astounding.

Thanks, Sand, that means a lot. =) I'll never be good enough to draw an LMS-worthy landscape, but I do adore those 1930s-era posters.
