SMPG No. 900

Sometimes, being pretty awesome can get your order pulled through fast at the notoriously slow GSBW. (If YOU’RE waiting for something from them... give it a try!)

In fact, this particular order from the SMPG presented the GSBW with something of a problem. The 2-6-4 design requested had been considered a kind of black sheep in the GSBW family since its conception, and, indeed, the engine performed rather poorly on the P&RN line for which it was built. How, then, could the GSBW bring itself to show this failure to the public eye once again? Well, the answer was a redesign, of course, and the GSBW did what it does best by building a better boiler (new slogan!). The frame, which was believed to have been badly-cast in the original design (and thus supposedly the cause of derailments), was also made from new patterns for the SMPG order. A larger tender was thrown in for good measure. The new, beefed-up 2-6-4 steams better and pulls harder than ever before... a (hopefully) perfect design for the SMPG. (That trailing truck is unchanged, though... if it gives you problems, you deal with it. XD)

(Also, done PARTICUARLY for the SMPG, was the removal of the turbo generator and the addition of an oil headlight. I didn’t like it, but folks tell me that that’s how the ‘Greeley rolls, so it was done. XD)
