I sort of meant to post this a bit sooner, but what the hey.
These are the designs I came up with for the ship Racerdude is flying in the art-trade-thing we did. There is one engine mounted on a pivot under each wing, fed by high octane fuel held in a removable tank strapped under the belly of the craft. When the pilot has found a suitable target to attack, the engines are rotated to point strait down, allowing the craft to hover in place. A wind-speed indicator and gyroscopic sensors are used while the craft is hovering to keep the ship level and stable in various conditions.
The front cowling of the ship opens in two halves which are mounted on double hinges, allowing a telescopic laser housed in the front of the craft to extend out the nose. The interior of the ship can be accessed through a hatch at the back of the cockpit which allows the pilot to make adjustments to the fuel lines or the electronics on the back of the laser, or perform any other routine maintenance that might be required.
