Spirit Trains by Atticus-W Spirit Trains by Atticus-W
So it turns out that while I wasn’t paying attention, Nintendo released a second trailer for the upcoming Zelda title, Spirit Tracks. And... what’s this...? they redesigned the train??

What can I say but heck yes. :D The new train is so darn cool I just had to draw it. And while I was at it, I figured why not draw the old one too just to emphasize the change.

The old one... pretty much looked like an exceptionally crude replica of the Stephensons’ Rocket ([link]). Built out of a barrel. (What is it with Nintendo and barrel trains, anyway??) I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo wanted to bring Hyrule into the railroad age slowly, but anyone capable of forging a sword could have built something better than that! The new train... looks solid. Metallic. Classy. Worthy of the Hyrulian name!

If I dare say so myself, it rather resembles a baby cousin of the train I first drew in response to Spirit Tracks [link] . Note the high headlight (yes, that’s a headlight— not a horn or something!) and Hylian crest on each. (Not to mention the much-needed pilot/buffer beam, and a conventional wheel arrangement!) The new train does share a number of characteristics with its predecessor, though... these include its stocky proportions, upwards slanting boiler, lack of drive wheel quartering, and a pair of crazily sliding cylinders that apparently defy Newton’s Third Law of Motion (or do they?? [link]).

In conclusion— congrats on a good design, Ninty. :D (But seriously... no A+ until you fix that smokebox! XD)

Indeed that if you can metal work, you can build a steam engine
....

Wait...

That means the same could be said for Mesopotamians and Anchient Egyptians!!!

Hahaha. Yes. Indeed. XD I suppose that Hyrulian trains possibly run on magic instead of fire or somesuch nonsense... I haven't played Spirit Tracks yet, but I haven't seen any mention of locomotive fuel or fireboxes in the online game art, alas. However, there was a time when wood was a fairly important material in locomotive construction, even being used occasionally as exposed boiler insulation... ( [link] ) of course, there was an iron boiler underneath the wooden exterior, which somewhat hampered the chances of immediate total conflagration. XD

The wood is insulation, like on Stephenson's Rocket, Lion, and other VERY early locos. The inside is a mix of iron & tin.

Ooh, nicely done.

Oh, and I bet you would've realized I've just got my talking train idea out....

... right HERE.

Also included is a story of him, and how the story of Hyrule's railway just got a bit realistic and a little more accurately-ish instead of a huge bizzare MESS.

Remember, this is NINTENDO we're talking about, they have their own logic, so they can design anything they want and defy NEWTON himself, but aside from that, I love the SPIRIT TRAIN... :) *Whirr*

Ay. :D Nintendo does their own thing when it comes to technology, and trains in particular tend to be subjected to extreme reinterpretation... but while I'm always most ecstatic to see designs with a solid foundation in realism, I tip my hat to creativity and innovation as well. Ninty, keep 'em coming. ^^

Hey buddy!

Well, I'm going to do one of my ideas myself anyways.

Idea on hold: 2-8-2 inspired by C.P. Huntington replica train

Idea coming up next: What if the Spirit Train can talk? What if there might be a Thomas the Tank Engine parody featuring him? Find out soon!
Let's see if Spirit Tracks fans and those who likes talking trains likes about this idea.

Yeah...

Ah, here comes some few ideas I have.

One of them includes,

As possible parody of Thomas the Tank Engine, with a talking train idea....

.....what if Spirit Train, the solid, classy one, would've been an talking train with its headlight as his eyes, and a mouth on the smokebox?

His quotes are pretty EPIC, including this;

"Does anyone seen my shovel?",

and this,

"Now how does this happened, anyways?",

and THIS,

"Like, who's bothering my driver!?".

Huh?

Oh, hi!
Am I glad to see you!
Have you ever watched any videos about this game, TLOZ; Spirit Tracks?

BTW, Sampug394, of course they can whistle, but you know what's obvious?
How can some steam smokestack on each trains can grow a bit bigger when you blow the whistle? Cartoony feel?

Just asking, that's all.

Ah, yes, I have seen a few clips of the game... namely, the two trailer movies.

And if the smokestacks grow larger when the whistle blows, I can assure you that it is indeed a cartoony effect. XD Smokestacks are made of sheet steel like most other parts of a locomotive and are very much not flexible. Besides, the smokestack is not the device that produces a locomotive's whistling noise... that device would be the WHISTLE. XD

Compare to Banjo-Tooie... whenever Chuffy whistles, the huge brass whistle in front of his cab grows bigger as well. It's still just a cartoony effect, but at least it's the right part being cartoon-ified. ;) (Also, in Banjo-Tooie, Chuffy's smokestack grows and contracts with each puff of exhaust smoke... hmm. A trend emerges. XD)

Remember? Anything about the other trains in Hyrule, which is actually some steam-powered trolley car/tram things?
And the Dark Train, one of the enemies in-game of Legend of Zelda; Spirit Tracks?

There's more where that came from, you know.
Just asking, that's all.

Well that explains it.....

Maybe, my brother had played Spirit Tracks on the DS. He played the game as well, and he had beaten the 4 parts of the game itself! That includes the Forest Realm, Snow Realm, Ocean Realm, an the Fire Realm.

And guess what?
You may or may not believe about this:

Back when my brother played the game, in the beginning, when he drove the wooden style train to Hyrule Castle Town, he saw that the other trains are actually some steam-powered trolley car things, and later throughout the game after he have beaten the first temple, then the other trains turns themselves into the dreaded Dark Train! OMG DARK TRAINS!

You can look it up on Youtube, type Spirit Tracks part 1 on the searchbox, then, well I recommend you to try this [link] stopping on 10:09 or this [link] if you want to see it better.

Long comment, isn't it?
That's alright, I'm just wondering, that all.

Nice drawings. I was glad when they decided to change the train but I think the second one is the spirit train. The first one is like a default train Link has until he gets the second. (After Zelda dies and all that business.) I don't know, I don't have the game (yet) and I'm thinking about the stuff I've already seen. :D
Either way, 1 week to go! :la:
