So it turns out that while I wasn’t paying attention, Nintendo released a second trailer for the upcoming Zelda title, Spirit Tracks. And... what’s this...? they redesigned the train??

What can I say but heck yes. :D The new train is so darn cool I just had to draw it. And while I was at it, I figured why not draw the old one too just to emphasize the change.

The old one... pretty much looked like an exceptionally crude replica of the Stephensons’ Rocket ([link]). Built out of a barrel. (What is it with Nintendo and barrel trains, anyway??) I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo wanted to bring Hyrule into the railroad age slowly, but anyone capable of forging a sword could have built something better than that! The new train... looks solid. Metallic. Classy. Worthy of the Hyrulian name!

If I dare say so myself, it rather resembles a baby cousin of the train I first drew in response to Spirit Tracks [link] . Note the high headlight (yes, that’s a headlight— not a horn or something!) and Hylian crest on each. (Not to mention the much-needed pilot/buffer beam, and a conventional wheel arrangement!) The new train does share a number of characteristics with its predecessor, though... these include its stocky proportions, upwards slanting boiler, lack of drive wheel quartering, and a pair of crazily sliding cylinders that apparently defy Newton’s Third Law of Motion (or do they?? [link]).

In conclusion— congrats on a good design, Ninty. :D (But seriously... no A+ until you fix that smokebox! XD)

The old style makes me think how Phoenix would look like back in the days of the Norris

I don't know about you, but I am still thinking they will use the old design. Not to say the new design won't be used. If you checked PH, you can customise your boat.

Hm, yeah, that thought did cross my mind. Did any of the customizable parts in PH change the shape (layout?) of the boat, though? (I haven't played it, you see.) The parts between the two train designs don't look entirely interchangeable to me... but I suppose that if you were able to switch out the undercarriages or something, it could be possible.

Where's the second trailer for spirit Tracks? I can't find it on youtube...

I know what you mean about the trains, though. At least it doesn't come with a Linebeck. :-/

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

Hahaha, people seem to either love this Linebeck fellow or hate him... XD

Here's the link to the new E3 trailer: [link] . :D

Yes, in PH, in did somewhat change the the format. I mean, it isn't like when you customized it, you only recoloured it. So, I think in ST(Spirit Tracks) you'll be able to do the same thing. =) I don't know what everyone is getting angry over, Trains are fun too!~

Well, okay then, I guess anything is possible. :D And it's funny, but I can sorta sympathise with the folks who argue with the train... but then, if I were one of them, I would have long ago argued with PH's steamboat, too. Which of course some folks (perhaps rightly) did. XD As it is... I guess the railfan in me tells me to let the "anachronism" of the train slide, however silly it is to see one steam-powered invention in an otherwise pre-industrial world. XD
