As my fellow Koopa fans doubtless well know, the marvelous Koopa fansite Lemmy's Land hasn't updated in over a year. While that may seem like a long time to wait before finally admitting that it's dead, well... it's not been a thing I've really wanted to admit.
Lemmy's Land has been a Mario fan institution since 1998, and it must have helped spur the resurgence in popularity of the Koopalings in the mid 2000s. It was a massive site, updated weekly with religious adherence during its prime, filled with fan content ranging from preposterous short fanfiction "scribbles" to artwork and music files. And the entire operation was run by one Koopa, the titular Lemmy.
But Lemmy, to me, was more than a fastidious webmaster... he always seemed to have a soft spot for new artists and authors, and I think that he gave me a chance to prove myself back when my own drawing skills were tenuous at best. Had he not accepted my offer to volunteer as a Caption Assistant ten years ago I rather doubt that I would know any of my current watchers or that I'd be posting artwork online today. Rather unsurprisingly, I suppose, Lemmy's Captions section was always my favorite— I long delighted at reading the hilarious lines written by fans for the caption pictures each week. There was always an additional joy, I admit, when the caption picture in question was my own.
As much as I'll miss the site, I worry about Lemmy far more. He was always punctual, professional, and polite day in and day out, and would even leave a message on the front page of his site if he was planning to skip even one of his weekly updates. To suddenly leave his site utterly abandoned and without a single message or e-mail response describing his plans to quit or otherwise is as out of character as I've ever seen him.
I've heard rumors that Lemmy himself isn't dead in the literal sense— obviously I can only hope that this is true. If it is, I can still thank him— generally, for creating and maintaining his magical site that united Koopa fans for 13 years, and personally, for giving me a chance to draw for him for so long. It was a wonderful experience.

An Eclipse (p)review
So I really don't want to do this, but here's an open letter to #Deviantart re: #Eclipse : Recently, you have spent much time preaching about the promotion of community, togetherness, and the ability to communicate and be heard. At the same exact time, you are in the endgame stages of instituting an ableist new site design that flaunts showy new graphics and web tricks at the expense of an easy-to-read-and-use layout. Although your new site design may cater to some elite top tier of professional "artists," it actively punishes many of Deviantart's most marginalized communities with its lack of accessibility and readability. Between the lack of confined section boxes, chaotic use (and lack) of space between and around site elements, menu bars that lock and unlock from the top of the page depending on scroll location, an increased reliance on tabs with a minimalist indication regarding active and inactive statuses, and inconsistent page layouts between different user's profiles, the

Here come the Roaring Twenties!
Where to go now...?
Wow. What a kick in the face when I opened up dA today. For a guy who's been feeling pretty down about artwork lately, and has been trying to find the inspiration and time to get new artistic concepts flowing, seeing the unreadable, convoluted clutter of this website redesign makes it feel like my gallery workshop burned down overnight. What's the point of posting art in an environment so chaotic that no casual observer could be expected to find it or read the commentary with which it was submitted...? First it was Youtube cracking down on things like colorful animation and toy reviews with its heinous Coppa policies. Then it was Bricklink being bought by Lego, forcing a once-independant base of the fandom to adhere to Lego's strictly-enforced and arbitrary corporate guidelines. This has not been a good few weeks for those of artistic, geeky bents. I'm not sure where to go next. And for the record, dA, I do not identify with pronoun identities. Learn some respect. This is

I have been on Lemmy's Land for a long while. Never posted or anything, but I instead just liked to explore it. Spent most of my teen ages on that site, lol.
My favorite section was Roy's Sport Halls, though I liked the game ideas section, lol.
Now in 2023 I decided to search for it online just for funsies, and was shocked to see that lots of it are still up. But you know what made me nostalgic and yet happy?
All chapters of my favorite Funfiction, "Bowser's Apprentice", was still there! I could re-read, laugh, and be nostalgic about the whole thing!
....I still was rooting for Fiery to win it all instead of Panser, though. ^_^;
